Dear Searching,

Networking can be THE silver bullet when it comes to finding a job, so make the most of the opportunities available. In fact, studies show that networking is the most effective way to get a job. The annual Sources of Hire study conducted by the consulting firm Career Xroads, states that referrals are the source of

 about 30 percent of hires.

At the same time, employment professionals tell us to treat job-hunting as a full-time job. So make sure to schedule plenty of networking activities and then follow through!

Effective networking is all about the relationships you build.  Make quality connections and stay in contact with them.  Refrain from appearing desperate by announcing to everyone that you need a job.
Define your target market, i.e. your dream job. Be as specific as you can. Iron out your elevator speech-how you describe yourself-and practice it with several variations. Find events that match your desired job like industry-specific associations.
Not everyone you run into will have a job opening or will know of one. You can still connect with them. Ask them questions about their industry, job, or career track. You’ll make an impression and you never know when an opening will pop up. You will most likely be the first on their list.

The more you build relationships and get the word out, the more people will know you and what you are looking for. In no time at all, you will have that dream job.
