Three Unexpected Benefits of Networking – A Personal Testimonial by David

The concept of the Social Law of Reciprocity has been around for centuries; however the science of modern networking is relatively new. I’m asked all the time about why networking is so important. Sometimes, the benefits of networking go well beyond the direct increase of referrals to my bottom line. Here are a few examples of ways I have personally been impacted by networking activities.

  • Networking has enabled me to strengthen my professional skills and expand my horizons. I have been able to speak to professionals across the United States through opportunities that I would have never found except as a direct result of intentional, strategic networking.  I have trained people across the globe, gaining a much greater understanding and appreciation for the way the world works, interacting with people and cultures vastly different from my own.

  • Networking has broadened my professional vision.  When I began my networking journey, I was simply seeking to increase referrals for my accounting practice. Far beyond those transactional referrals, networking has brought me a wonderful business partner in Amy D. Kilpatrick, who helped me discover a greater vision for my professional mission.  Nspired is a direct result of networking success.

  • Networking has benefitted me personally! In 2015, my networking activities were rewarded with an amazing new bride and two wonderful step-children.  Talk about networking being life-changing!

In each of these situations, it is possible that they might have occurred even without specific networking activities.  However, the fact I network intentionally has certainly made these life-changing events happen more quickly. Obviously, my success may not be yours. The only guarantee is that the doors that may open for you through networking will only be opened if you network.  Remember, you get out of networking what you put into it.  Go out, network, and “Nspire Others!”®
