What? I need networking goals?

Most business professionals start each year with goals for sales and revenue, their marketing budget, and at least a general idea of how much growth they want.  But when you ask them, “What are your networking goals?” you tend to get that blank stare.

Most business professionals start each year with goals for sales and revenue, their marketing budget, and at least a general idea of how much growth they want.  But when you ask them, “What are your networking goals?” you tend to get that blank stare.

Here at Nspired, we help our client's build an Nspired Networking Plan of Action, which creates a roadmap to a strategic referral system.  Successful networking starts with intention! So one of the first steps we have them do is create measurable steps.

Here are a few questions that help our clients begin the process of setting their goals for the next 6 to12 months.

  • How many referrals would you like to receive in the next 12 months?

  • What does your conversions rate (turning a referral into closed business) need to be for you to reach your sales goals?

  • How many new referral partnerships will you build during the next 12 months?

  • How many networking events will you attend in the next 6 months?

  • How many networking events will you host in the 12 months?

  • What training/education on networking will you obtain during the next 12 months?

For experienced networkers, this list may be too basic for you, so the challenge is to take your goals down to a very specific level and use names instead of generic industries or break it down to month-by-month.

For the beginner, keep it SIMPLE!  ANALYSIS IS PARALYSIS!  As you begin to grow in your networking skills, you will begin to have more details to add to your goals and then you will begin to see a trend.  These trends will help you setup your future goals.

Last step... you need to put your goals where you will see them.  Out of sight, out of mind!

Now that you know.... GO!  Set those goals...then REACH them!
